Fall Feeling, Music and news ahead of the upcoming season in Todos Santos
Feeling Autumn at Oystera in Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico – Jenelle Aubade

The Summer is winding down and although we still have about 6 weeks left of steamy possibly stormy days ahead in Todos Santos, I am busy setting up a fun musical ride for the upcoming tourist and beautiful weather season here in Baja Sur. Lots of fun dates to share, and also some news.

I will be presenting a new recurring music series in collaboration with Oystera in Todos Santos this year. Starting in November 2022, once or twice a month we will have a Singer Songwriters Night, as well as special stand alone concerts, down in the beautiful garden on Saturday evenings.

This establishment by Santa Terra is top notch, they bring a lot of beauty and fun to our community, and are always curating fresh and fun events for everyone along with their fine dining and cocktail specialties. Come for a great meal with friends and family, then settle in for a couple hours of sweet original music down in the garden featuring both local and International artists.

Here are some of the upcoming shows, more TBA soon!

“Ranging from Bossa Nova to American Blues to Afro-Cuban styles, 2014 Grammy award recipient (Best Latin Rock) La Santa Cecilia is a guarantee in the party category. Based in Los Angeles, CA, the band leans on their versatility, musicianship, and artfulness to create a soundscape unlike any other band on either side of Rio Grande.”

The Tropic of Cancer Concert Series will take place Jan. 12-14 & 19-21, 2017. Hosted by the rock n’ roll band Cordovas, the series gathers local and nationally touring musical acts for two weekends of music, love, and art in the small Baja town with proceeds aiding the local fire department.

Love, theory, thought, practice, prayer, art and health.

Nashville-based folk singer Langhorne Slim has developed a reputation for a gut punching live act, receiving high praise from Rolling Stone, The Guardian, and more. The New Yorker painted him as having “Leadbelly’s gift for storytelling, and Dylan’s ability to captivate crowds.”

Tropic of Cancer Concert Series takes place an hour’s drive north of the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Come up coast. Gaze at the Pacific. A brand new highway will bring you to Todos Santos, the small beach town. Honored by the Mexican government as a Pueblo Mágico for its symbolism, legend, and history, the Tropic of Cancer runs almost straight through town. It trips your mind and injects you with inspiration as you cross over. It is said that you can feel its power in your thoughts, in your mood, in your art while you are there.

Chicano folk legends Las Cafeteras come out of East LA with grit, high energy, and a staunch pride in their role in Mexican civil rights. Collaborating with a diverse set of artists from Edward Sharpe to the LA Philharmonic, Las Cafeteras is a contemporary, culturally significant act; one not to miss.

Todos Santos is an old mission town; it means All Saints. It’s a place where mystics, watermen, artists, and romantics live and work. It’s a town of merchants and shops, where the taco man presides nightly over his cart and steaming grill. A hotel worker sprays down dust from the dirt road in front of his manor. An elderly lady rocks back and forth on her front porch, watching the day begin only a block off downtown, unamazed by progress. Surrounded by farms and desert, Todos Santos is an oasis. It sits in the shadow of the great Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. Fresh Water rushes down from the high altitudes, beneath the earth and journeys a hundred miles only to emerge in the canals downtown.

A whale jumps off the coast as the sun sets west in warm golden winter on the southern Baja of California. The music is starting up. You can hear it from your porch as the waves crash behind you.

Tropic of Cancer Concert Series features three venues, and several shows weekly from emerging and established artists. New friendships will be made, new art discovered, new ways will be encountered. This is a concert series for and by artists. For the artist in everyone.

Kentucky-born singer-songwriter Joan Osborne sings and writes with an obvious wealth of knowledge and love for the American Country, Blues, and R&B tradition. Besides leading a decorated solo career, she’s sung with and backed The Dixie Chicks, The Dead, and Phil Lesh and Friends among others. She’s a silver thread in the American weave.

Comprised of Wilco members John Stirratt and Pat Sansone, The Autumn Defense have musicianship and natural talent in spades. Sansone and Stirratt’s songs are not mere muddy reflections of the expected American cannon; they hold something larger within, something imaginative, bright, and original.

Based out of Madison, TN, rock and roll act Cordovas loves to throw a party. The Deli Magazine says about their presence: “between the Eagles-like harmonies and some heavy touches of The Band, the sound is a little like the greatest supergroup that never existed—classic, but totally unique.”

American singer-songwriter Steve Poltz writes songs with original wit and satire. Known for his songwriting partnership with singer Jewel, Poltz had a number two hit with “You Were Meant For Me.” His live performance is captivating and inspiring; somewhere between Mark Twain and Paul Simon.

Nashville-based songwriter Tim Easton is a poet rambler; a Woody Guthrie street singer writing songs about Blues heroes and crooked politicians, a studied American Folk singer with highway miles to prove it.

Accomplished singer-songwriter Tom Freund Music writes songs like Randy Newman and sings them with a voice like any other. Collaborating with Ben Harper, Graham Parker, and The Silos, among others, Freund is a part of the reason songs are written the way they are today; an influence on countless songwriters.

Few other acts performing today play with the intensity and spirit of Matt Haeck. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter can command a room and put on a bare-bones rock ’n’ roll show with the best of ‘em.

From Nashville, TN, Becca Mancari writes songs about the tranquility of human connection in the vein of Lucinda Williams and Bob Dylan. She’s an open-hearted singer who’s voice can be trusted, believed; expect an instant conversion at her live show.

No one on the planet can play the guitar like Zane Carney. Mostly known for his work with John Mayer, Carney has also shared the stage with Stevie Wonder and U2 among others, easily comparable with the best of his generation.
